ABOUT

In every marble block is a sculpture; in every body is a story. In Shiran Eliaserov’s rousing contemporary compositions, the movers are not instruments, but muses. Prism-like, they refract her vision through their own body of knowledge, creating a living spectrum of expression.

It is this intimate ritual of transformation that the Berlin-based Israeli choreographer and performer finds the most exciting. In fact, the alchemical process transcends all aspects of Eliaserov’s work, including her video art. Immersed in her striking alternate realities, the audience are never passive spectators. Like a psychological thriller, they are confronted with challenging questions, which may in turn catalyse transformative thoughts or actions.

Fuelling these pulsating moments are motifs of power, fluidity of identity, domesticated sexuality, and posthumanism. With a journalistic eye that is forever scanning for new perspectives, Eliaserov’s often anthropological research begins by interviewing people. Her fact-meets-fiction approach – honed through a decade of site-specific creations – is also deeply informed by somatic techniques and transpersonal processes.

The fundamental question: what knowledge is conjured within our living body?
